PORO BLINDBOX CONCEPT, 2024
A way for everyone to have a little Poro friend.
background —
Two things that bring me great joy are collectible blind box toys and cute characters. These interests are very likely the reason my dream job would be a Gachapon designer and one day I decided to try my hand at it, with the inspiration being the Poro character from Riot Games’ IP.
You can often find the little guy wandering the Howling Abyss in League of Legends, as a playable tactician in Teamfight Tactics, or in the card art for Legends of Runeterra, but with this concept, you can collect as many as you want and have them keep you company IRL!

3D modeling —
I make shapes for work but now I needed to make 3D shapes.
It was an interesting shift from thinking in 2D to 3D. I chose to use Womp as my software of choice as they have a “goop” effect that was very amusing to me and helped me create the blob-y roundness that I love in characters like Kirby and Pompompurin.

packaging design —
Going back to 2D? Flattening a cube to make a template.
Despite deciding pretty early on that I didn’t want to create waste by trying my hand at printing a bunch of poros and boxes, I still tried to be conscious about how this template would fit on a real piece of card stock.
This may not be how it works in real life at all, but I aimed to use as minimal material as possible. I also think this design would need minimal adhesive as well.
Once the template was done, I added images and text similar to what I’ve seen on other blindboxes.
